Default Rear hyd brakes qun....

Guys, just a quick qun - what year/s rear hyd brakes will fit up to a 32 Ford rear end.

If there are none, what is reqd to allow backing plates/brake parts to bolt up to the rear end ?

Any input would be very much appreciated thx !!

I have 40 backing plate on my standard 32 rear. The rear adjuster is a tight fit and I think the spring mount was slightly releaved for clearance. The 32 rear backing plates mount I think 30* off level. I put my car really nose down to bleed the brakes. I need to redrill the plates to get them level. I have a full set of 40 brakes in the classified.

Andy - I think if you rotate the backing plates up at the back it will make the adjustment of the rear adjuster even more difficult, if not impossible.

I have 40's on the back of my 33 and they work fine even with the rearward rotation.

Here's a pic of the very dirty ones that have been on there for at least the last 55 years.

They don't look too badly rotated, but the torque tube is angled sharply down in the pic. You will also notice the cylinders are in backwards (more accurately, fitted on the wrong side of the car).

Mart, I went and looked. You are sure right. Rotating them level will not work because of the shock mount. I bought some Wilson Lincoln assys a while back and are going to put them on at some point. I can redrill them!

'39 to '48 but the '39 drums are 5 on 10 1/4 bolt circles you probably want '40-'48 drums. There are pre and post war brake designs that should match on an axle.

Thans fellas so let me see if I got this right?

40-48 drums AND backing plates right?

Any mods need to be done for clearance OR spacers required?

Thx again !

Mostly right, 39-48 backing plates, 40 - 48 hubs/drums. I prefer the later backing plates, they are a little easier to adjust. Any hub from the years mentioned will work with any backing plate from the years mentioned.
