Default not starting

Hi guys, another problem. My 47 starts good when its cold but after a hour drive when I shut it off and try to restart it acts like I have a dead battery just a clicking noise.I thought it might be the coil but wouldn't the quit when it got too hot ? Just bought a brand new battery and it shows 6.8 volts on my meter.Ijust installed a distrutor from Baba's about a month ago Could the condenser on the distrutor act this way.Any help would be great. Thanks for now, Moe

You'll get a lot of responses from members far more qualified than me, but you might check for a good solid ground.

My car was doing very similar - Start cold fine - then drive, shut off and mine would crank slow and not start - I sent my coil to Skip in FL - due back early next week.

Just a clicking noise.......? Cool, that's nothing to do with the coil. Check battery leads, followed by starter and then earth cable....see how you get on

Poling..
Starter motor needs a rebuild.

Check your grounding , wires etc, but sounds the same as what mine did.

I agree. Sounds like a tired starter.

you say a new battery shows 6.8 volts what you need to do is ck. your gen. output with the engine running @1000 rpm make sure its charging your battery then from their you go to all the cables to ck. for good clean contact don't just look at them take them apart from their connection and clean them if all that is good then its time to overhaul your starter remember this it doesn't take a lot of voltage to light a bulb but it takes a lot to turn a starter hope this helps

It's call "Heat Soak", fairly common on tired starters. either rebuild or buy a new or rebuilt one. Not a bad idea to check for good grounding and connections first. If your sure their all good and it does the same thing It's "Heat Soak "

I would suggest that before you go buying a new starter or having yours rebuilt have it checked out by a shop that does that. You might also try going direct to the starter & by passing the solenoid & clean your grounds.

park on a hill. turn your switch off . let it roll down the hill with switch on in second gear. let the clutch out. if it starts right away. think starter. good luck

My starter used to do that. I'd carry a hammer and when it wouldn't start I'd give it a couple of whacks on the side of the starter to jiggle the worn out brushes down against the commutator for another start. You might try that. If it works you know it's your starter. Probably just the brushes. Cheap simple fix if that's all it is.
