Default 1930 Tudor Top installation

I am about to install a new top kit on my 1930 Tudor. Should the padding under the top cover just the chicken wire or should it extend across the metal on the sides down to the drip rail?

Just covering the chicken wire.

My best results were done with the sun warming the fabric as I installed

If your drip rails are in good shape treat them very gently as all the repops that I am aware of are straight and it will take a skilled tin bender to put the curve in. Hidem (sp.?) is a poor substitute in this application. Not to mention that it is no longer a drip rail. I know this it not the answer to your chicken wire/matt question but for a nice looking car it should be considered. Bill G. is correct.

I cheated on my 30. I put a solid top in mine (not metal) and molded it in and then covered the whole top with the thin foam. Then put the vinyl top on it. Turned out beautiful. I'd post a picture but this site gives me problems with that.

Thanks everyone for the all the help. I have a follow up question about how the chicken wire and padding go on the front header. I am assuming the chicken wire fastens on top of the header behind the groove that is cut into it and the ends of the wire would tuck into that groove. I assume the padding would run past the wire and end at the ridge in the visor just behind the tacking slots. Am I assuming correctly?

If my memory doesn't fail me, that is correct and the other holes were for the top. Don't use the holes over again or if for some reason it comes out that way fill them with a tad of epoxy and tooth picks or get longer tacks.
