1969 Judging Standards
My oldest son bought a few Restorer and Model A News magazines at a local auction for a few dollars and gave them to me.
They are 1967 to 1970 volumes. Of interest is the March-April 1969 Model A News that has an insert named "Special Judging Standards Issue". If you think we fine point restorers and you dedicated judges have a tough time today figuring out what is correct for our "A's" you need to read these "Standards" from 1969. The "News" is copyright protected so I don't think I can post the entire 24 pages of the Standards from this magazine but here is the whole Area 25-Valve Stems and Covers section. |

[QUOTE=mot;1024611] is this the one that states that any period tools were OK?
Tools were Area 18 in this standards and had a value of 4 points. Limited descriptions were given but the dates were pretty much 1927-1931. Only one picture and it had all the tools (and a couple not in the current Guidelines) but was not clear enough to show any markings. "Monkey" wrench with out the square tip was OK. There were 4 different owners instruction books, one for each year of production. Almost all tools, except the jack and tool pouch, were expected to have the Ford script. Full points were to be awarded if at least 9 tools were presented because "many Ford dealers did not have enough tools on hand at all times to supply each car sold". (This was probably true.) Really fun reading this document. Some sections are amazingly similar to the current Guidelines. Ray |

Re: 1969 Judging Standards
I have a mimeographed copy of the JS from around 1970. Genuine brown crush grain leather was OK in the 68C Cabriolet. Genuine leather was advertised as being available in the 400A & 68C in June of 31 in Ford ads. The later JS says leather wasn't available until Oct. of 31. Sometime along the way someone decided to change it. I don't think Ford would have advertised something that wasn't available.

Re: 1969 Judging Standards
I have this score sheet from probably 1965 it comes with 11 instruction pages.
Listed under Undercariage, Tools and Accessories (15 points) Credit is due to those who have taken the time to accumulate an authentic set of tools as they came with the car. The kit should contain only those hand tools supplied by Ford in a black leatherette pouch, and other Ford tools that where sold with the car. (But no tool pictures are supplied) .. |

Re: 1969 Judging Standards
To get a feel for the difficulty in writing the standards...using only the written word...describe tying your shoes so someone who didn't know how would suceed. Or describe the color blue with out examples. Thank you to all the authors.....
