Default Help Needed Finding brake part for 53 Victoria

A brass brake line connector is mounted on the rear axle of our 53 Victoria by a threaded hollow stud that also acts as a vent for the rear axle.

Anyone know a source for this vent tube/brake line connector mount ? Or how to make something else work if the same part isn't available ?

I've looked at a few vendors and not found it. They all sell the brass brake line connector, stands to reason someone should sell the part that mounts it and vents the rear axle.

Thanks-

I purchased several for a 9 inch axle a while back, took a little effort to find them. Do you know the thread sizes?

Looks like the Early Ford Store has them:

"This is the brass fitting that the rear brake hose attaches to. Fits 1948-1956 Ford pickup trucks and 1949-1956 Ford and 1952-1953 Mercury."

There are bolts available for the banjo style fluid fittings. If the thread was right on one of them, a person could easily modify it for venting. A standard grade bolt can be drilled for venting if needed.

Sorry, didn't read the real question!! I believe the bolts are available as well. I know the vent bolts are with the barbed piece, the only issue would be the length. I can check later.

Here are a few, again not sure about thread compatibility. First is 64-66 mustang, next one is F150 and the third is a 9 inch. Just search under "axle vent bolt" or "axle breather vent".

JSeery- If I used one like those you posted photos of would I need to put anything over the opening to prevent dirt from entering ? the one on the car now has a small cap on top that rotates.

Ookpik- Thanks for the info I'll call our local Ford dealer and see if they can find it in their database.

They normally connect a hose to them that does up to the fame. I think the hose is better if you happen to drive into deep water. Most of the later model trucks used the hose.

Have seen at least one with a hose that was plugged solid due to insects building a nest in the hose.

If that is a concern put a filter on it.

It's not of any concern and there was a filter installed on the tube over 40 years ago.

Wasn't referring to you 51 Merc, I was just saying if anyone is concerned about an open tube on the axle they could install a filter on the end of it. Think it is a good point to bring up and probable a good idea in any case.

I use a short piece of hose on the vent bolt and then connect a piece of U shaped steel tubing to the hose. The tubing points downward and there is no chance of something falling into it.
