Do we have anyone here that specializes in restoring Powerhouse generator armatures?

Do you mean rewinding--- or just turning commutator/resoldering connections
In the past I have rewound several---- it would cost too much today, --- even then(early80s)it was easier to buy another core for 10$

Thanks. I have an armature lathe and an undercutter, but I don't have the ability to rewind the armature. I have 3 or 4 that I need to have rewound.

I used to have access to a winding machine, I have been thinking of making an adapter for the sunnen hone, it works similar to the winding machine, it's still cheaper to buy a core for me, the past couple Hersheys I experimented in buying generator cores at what I paid in the 70s--3-5$, up to 10 for powerhouses, though now I will pay a little more for never rusty ones that haven't been rebuilt before and still have mill scale and date codes---
The end insulators are a pain to make, slot insulation was easy
I can make 100 putting brake pads on a Mercedes in a hour ---- 3-4 at least to rewind armature by hand

What armature lathe do you have that a powerhouse armature fits?

A friend needs a powerhouse armature rewound. He sent the whole generator to Colorado. That guy found a person in Washington who could rewind them. It is in Washington now. I will have information probably next week or two with cost involved and his information.

I took my Powerhouse to an old generator shop about 10 years ago, and the shop owner said he didn't know of anyone that would rewind it, and if he did, it would cost too much. Like Kurt, I just keep looking for cheap cores, but don't go out of my way to find them.

Yep, I'd say it was. Price for an armature rebuild was under $140.00 when I spoke with Al. While some might call that expensive, it is about what new armatures for regular generator are costing from the vendors.
