update on getting dizzy after being under the A.
So I spoke with my Doctor about crawling out from under the car and feeling a bit dizzy. He said that is very common with older folks and especially folks on blood thinners Fortunately you can help to negate the effects by rising slowly and even just laying out from under the car for a couple of minutes to get readjusted, but the best thing you can do for yourself happens before you get under the car. If you know you will be working there, drink extra water well before and just before you go under it. That will keep your blood pressure more even and the dizziness is from a loss of blood pressure while you are lying down and then suddenly trying to stand or sit again. The BP will take a noticeable drop when you move from lying to sitting or standing. By drinking a few extra glasses of water in advance you should notice less tendency to have a dizzy spell. Still, be careful. Falls are not a good thing as we get more advanced in years. I hope to try this tomorrow and see if it works for me. Let us know how it works for you. (Of course I will be out soon to go back to the bathroom.)

That's why the water drinking works. I have the same problem, but my forgetting what I crawled under the car for in the first place, or remembering the tool I didn't bring with me all helps to keep the blood flowing... Chap |

Glad to hear it was not something serious. Would be nice if we had a users manual for typical aging issues.

Re: update on getting dizzy after being under the A.
Had that same problem for the past several years since I passed the 65 mark. Staying hydrated is the key, but is a very good idea anyway. Last year I had the pneumonia vaccine, which is a good idea, but gave me a severe case of vertigo for about a week right in the middle of my maintenance schedule. So not only dizzy, but a spinning world and upset stomach for several minutes after getting up. Ah, the joys of aging...

I'm with Chap - two or three times in and out to have everything I need. Then I have to try to remember what the hell I'm there for.

Re: update on getting dizzy after being under the A.
It's likely something called "benign positional vertigo." Sometimes called "top shelf disease" because it's often happens when you look up. Go on line. There are things you can do for it. One is called the "Epley maneuver." Very simple to do, and it works. There are YouTube videos on how to perform it and other similar procedures (like the Semont-Toupet maneuver). These are not quack remedies, but widely accepted by the medical community. Physicians sometims perform them right in the office.

Getting old isn't for wimps.
I've had to stop using T's in golf. 95/55 blood pressure isn't good for standing up quickly. |

Re: update on getting dizzy after being under the A.
Thanks for the tip davey. I have been having this problem for the last couple of years. I always dread it when i have to lay on my back under my car. Or even worse, laying up side down on my seat to work under a dash. Talk about light headed and nauseous feeling that last for a few hours. Sucks getting old but just have to learn to deal with it.

Re: update on getting dizzy after being under the A.
So this morning I had my normal breakfast with a latte' and glass of water. about a half hour later I drank two 8 oz glasses of water and read the paper a few minute, ours is getting smaller by the day, then out and under the car to lay on my back grinding and smoothing some metal pieces that got put together without a gasket or goo. After I was sure I had a clean metal exposed, I washed it all down with acetone and spread a liberal coat of black silicone on all the joining surfaces, side by side, as I have no intention of pulling the O/D out in this lifetime. Brushed it out smooth and did this three times, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next. Crawled out from under the car and put my tools away for the day. No vertigo of hint of dizziness, seems those doctors that tell us to drink water might be onto something. Tomorrow I will do the refilling with oil and take a test drive and see if she still marks her spot. My doctor is Indian and when he told me to drink a bit more liquid I asked about Taz mah hal. Wrong stuff, only water or Gaterade.

This is similar with me. It is named 'storage fraud' (?) / 'positional vertigo'?. These are wrongly sorted tiny crystal stones in the ear.
On the other hand, exercises help to tilt the upper body quickly from one side to the other while sitting. Maybe you can understand what I wrote.
