Default If you have a muffler heat shield...

If you have a muffler heat shield and you suddenly notice a new rattle, you may find the same thing that I did. On mine the bracket broke the the bend--the top of the bracket is still riveted to the shield and the bottom is still bolted to the muffler, but the metal gave way where the bend is in the bracket.

I guess this is a good weekend to run out and pick up a welding rig

Dan,
It looks like a lot of space between the two. Could it be there was stress to pull apart like that, or is the picture an optical illusion?

Looks like the clamp just vibrated away from the shield.

I'm actually about to purchase a heat shield. Do you like it? Do you notice a cooler passenger compartment?

Mine broke and Ihad to rerivet it. Vibration plus heat plus tighening it too tight caused the failure.
My Model a is significantly cooler with the shield. I also have a sheet of the silver insulation material on the fire wall and the floor.

Here is the real secret: If Momma is to ride with you, freeze up some water bottles. Lay them on the floor so Momma can rest her bare tooties on the cold bottles. Happyness is.

I believe that this is why we're supposed to buy the more expensive model by Leslie Pam, rather than the cheaper product most suppliers sell.

Looks like the Leslie Pam one Looks the same, but says it's heavier duty. Also uses bent steel clamps. Also says it reduces the heat 77 degrees, as opposed to the regular one which drops the temperature only 47 degrees.

$79.95 model....

The brackets in your photo are way heavier than the ones supplied with mine--my brackets are only about the same weight as the shield itself... So maybe instead of a welder I need to go in search of some heavier gauge steel.

I think the gap in the photo is because the shield is laying on the muffler instead of held up by the bracket. I don't believe I overtightened it.

And I would recommend one of these to folks where the summers are warm. In the summer it made a big difference in how hot it got inside the car here in California.

We did a review, in the Model A Times, of the Pam shield vs the other item found much better results in the heat shield, and it is built stronger.

I've often been told that old people keep best refrigerated, but I thought they were referring directly to me.

Reminds me of an old H.P.Lovecraft horror story, Cool Air. Anybody remember Dr. Munoz? The Short story was published during the Model A era, in the March 1928 issue of Tales of Magic and Mystery.

In 1971 the TV show Night Gallery also did a production of it. You gotta keep cool, keep that ammonia machine running!
