Condenser questions
So, yesterday a set of symptoms came back (backfiring, rough running) that I last resolved by replacing the condenser. However, it's only been a month or two so I was surprised to have a second one possibly go bad so soon.
Questions: Anyone else have a condenser fail so quickly? Any idea what could cause such sort life? Heat possibly? I just resolved my over heating problem, so that could have contributed... Can you replace the condenser without pulling the distributor? Thanks again for all the help and advice. |

Re: Condenser questions
Bad batch of condensers? It does happen . You should be able to get to condenser by working down to it through dissy without taking the dissy out

Re: Condenser questions
Quote:
Lay the new condenser by the distributor, then remove the condenser ground screw FIRST. Now, walk around and from the driver's side remove the other screw, but DON'T REMOVE THE SCREWDRIVER FROM THE SCREW. KEEP LIGHT PRESSURE ON THE SCREW AND PULL OUT THE OLD CONDENSER AND SLIP IN THE NEW ONE WHILE TURNING THE SCREW IN. Now from the passenger side install the ground screw and drive away. By keeping light pressure on the terminal screw you won't loose it and the insulating washer. If either one falls out of place, you WON'T finish in a minute or two. |
