Re: New 36 Ford Owner!
All these type car forums have different views but overall, they are still information sharing forums. With that said, a person can pick and choose depending on what type of information they need. Ford Barn is mostly for information about near stock equipped cars but we bandy around all sorts of stuff in the long run.
The HAMB forum on the Jalopy Journal is geared more toward traditional hot rods and customs from back in an era where they were common. They were mostly built up from parts found around the local area and from salvage yard and the like with a few aftermarket custom items installed where they could be affordable. Street rods are from a much later era where a lot of stuff is fabricated and sold by folks that are making a living off the sport or building up cars utilizing parts and design from a much later era. The practice is still in effect but has lost the nostalgia in there to a certain extent. I think all of the forums have a purpose but folks need to respect each others preferences and not get carried away with trying to change things too much from there intended purpose. The original poster purchased a car that was being built up as more of the street rod type by someone else but that doesn't mean that it may be HIS intent for the car. He still has to check all the info out there to form his own plan. |

Re: New 36 Ford Owner!
Not so fast! For the most part, the stainless "not rusting" depends on what type of stainless we're starting with. More than likely, "3-series" stainless won't give you any rust issues but "4-series" stainless (which I would venture to guess the bumpers are made of) can rust in front of your eyes because of the iron in the composition. Re: New 36 Ford Owner!
BumperBoyz got a bad rap for a while, most prominently on HAMB. I don't think I ever saw anything bad about the job done. More so... like taking your bumper, dodging, and disappearing stuff. Been a while though so maybe things changed.
I know some middlemen do the spray chrome and say it's been chromed. Good chrome is rare and expensive. |

Re: New 36 Ford Owner!
My experience of the '36 bumpers in Stainless isn't good. Love the idea, no rust (theoretically, and practically in my case), polish scratches out etc but they have no spring or resistance to them. I misjudged my proximity to a corner of a brick wall and very gently touched it - opps i thought, but no biggie, scratch at worst. Imagine my horror to find a sharp bend / fold / crease in my otherwise perfect bumper! Some of it pulled out quite easily but I was left with damage that I couldn't bring my self to try and fix for fear of making it worse.
Probably serves me right for having M11 front, C3 rear and 454 w th400 Loved that car and have regretted selling it. Chris |

Re: New 36 Ford Owner!
A not stainless steel one? Sorry, I have no idea!
My stainless one probably came from Bob Drakes, I can't recall. I thought I was doing a good thing doing that. If I were to do it again I guess I'd try to find a good original, or any original and get it rechromed. Chris |
