Another sad day for the hobby
We lost another great Model A'er last night. Mick Isbell passed away after a year long battle. Mick was a past president of MARC and editor of the Model A hardware Book. I will really miss him, his great stories, friendship and warm personality.

Thanks Doug. He was a real nice guy and very knowledgeable. He wasn't that old either. I wondered why he passed on the wiper business that he took pride so much pride in. He was one of the men to go to, as to yourself..

Re: Another sad day for the hobby
We met Mick back in 1988 at the M.A.R.C. National Meet in St.Louis when he first got into Model A's. He and his son rode with us on the mandatory tour the first time we showed the 400-A in my avatar. Then there was the time he loaned us his newly bought '28 Fordor for the tour in the desert at the San Diego M.A.F.C.A. National. Great guy!

That is sad, we did an article on Mick several years ago, truly enjoyed my interview with him.

Re: Another sad day for the hobby
This is a sad day. I will miss Mick Isbell.
I don't remember exactly where I met Mick but I believe it was at a San Diego swap meet. He was an easy man to talk to and his enthusiasm for Model A's was great. At the Madison MARC national meet we roomed together. It was there that he spoke in detail about his early '28 Sport Coupe. Though it was a basket case he had amassed a wonderful collection of parts for this car. Most were NOS, restored or in excellent condition. About a year later my son and I were in his kitchen. Before we put the '28 Sport Coupe in our trailer to take home he shared a story about each part as he unwrapped it. We were all kids at Christmas. His dream became my dream. A couple years later my son, Dillon, and I returned to San Louis Obispo to check out Cal Poly. Mick acted as a guide and a recruiter. Months later his voice saddened when I told him over the phone that Dillon decided to go to college in Boulder, Colorado instead. A few years back Gary Johnson, Mick and myself spent the better part of a week together at Hershey. Good natured teasing and laughter...kids in adult bodies. These are a few of the memories I have of spending time with Mick Isbell. He was a great family man. A man of great enthusiasm for life. A man with an amazing love of this Model A hobby. I will miss him. |

Condolences to his family and friends. I'm sure he spread his "A" knowledge like wildfire.

Re: Another sad day for the hobby
My condolences to his family. Sad when some thing like this happens.
I work with a wonderful man, he is 81, to know what he has forgotten about model A's would make me a happy puppy.

Re: Another sad day for the hobby
I'm sad he's no longer with us. He restored some electric wipers for me and I sold him my 29 roadster basket case that he turned into a national winner. Makes me realize that we are all getting older.
