There is a local guy that has a January 29 pickup for sale, stamped TC on the cross floor brace (twin cities) and it needs a complete restoration. It does run and yard drive. What would be a rough guess? He is askign 7500 and I think that is high. It has a current title.

Ok, here is a pic of it. It has had restoration started but alot of the parts are aftermarket with the original parts tossed. Like the gauge panel, original thrown away and a repop in it's place. Some things are great, others are " damn" He has another guy coming tomorrow and I like it but what is a real estimate?? I sold my running, driving, original except for a brush paint 29 CCPU 2 years ago for 9000 so that is why I think this is high.

I don't know who did what. Was told former owner was in his 70's and had a wood shop. Guy who owns it now wants a roadster. It has no rust but I did see some evidence of filler on panles but not because of rust. Cab is very solild, no repair needed. It has fluted lenses, is that normal for a january 29 pickup?

Yes, fluted lenses are correct, as the new TWOLITE lamps came out in February 1929.

Here in Northern New England I think it would fetch a solid 6k. But what you pay = how bad you want it. You don't get your money back on a restoration, probably not on a lot of drivers either. I have "overpaid" for something before (compared to what others thought it was worth) just because I wanted it, and it fit my plans at the time. It is your discretionary income, and you don't need to tell anyone what you paid.

You have a LOT of parts to acquire yet to finish that truck. You also have a lot of things to go over, like front end (those dang kingpins), steering, brakes, etc. before it's tour ready. Engine being questionable, etc... Hmmm... I haven't been at this as long as most here on this board, so take my comments at less value than others. My guess would be $5,000 tops.

My guide is usually the condition of the sheet metal... and completeness, overall condition of chassis.. etc. It's hard to find good original sheet metal, body or front fenders in particular... I don't mind paying a little more if the sheet metal is prime.

Looking at it the fenders look pretty decent.. hard to tell on the body but it looks pretty decent. Try finding good doors for those.. almost impossible. The back panel on pickups is key on them as both sides show... and metal finishing/required body work is key on them. If all that is good.. and you know you'll have to go through ther rest of the chassis.... I think $5,500-$6500 is a good number, and if you want it bad enough and have to step up a little more I'd just say do it. You can buy a lot of drivers for twice that with running engines and bodies done/serviceable. So you have to weigh all that with your efforts and parts/restoration expense going forward.

Well I passed on it. Seller would not come down past 6500. The front end was all done, new everything. Rear was still original but brakes worked. Back of cab was not perfect but was not bad. rear fenders were super nice, driver fender had a crack and some lumps. Bed had new wood, only parts missing were the side glass. I just didn't feel right about it. If he said 5k, I would have been standing there cash in hand.

The way I would look at that truck would be, 'What can I buy a road ready Pickup for vs. buying this one and finishing it?' Plus a late '30 pickup might do you better anyway, they are more refined and I would assume a bit more money.

I think 12-15 grand would get you into a pretty nice pickup, a late '30-'31, ready to roll. This truck to my eye looks like maybe 2500 no more.

I just got a very angry text from the man selling it telling me that I was a "insert bad word here" and that I was just wasting his time. Wow, some people. Glad I passed on it.
