Model A's in movie

There is a new Bonnie and Clyde movie that came out this month on Netflix. It's called "The Highwaymen".
Stars Kevin Costner, and Woody Harrelson.
Told from Frank Hamers perspective.

The movie is full of model A's, AA's and a few t's.
Fun to watch, and also fun to look for incorrectly equipped cars.

Pretty good movie too.

The thing that always bugs me is all of the cars that are supposed to be a couple of years old..ie Model As..that look like they've been sitting in a field for 30 years.

Here is a 28/29 Tudor that looks like its really old in 1934...It's just annoying to me.

I heard directly from them that the film folks used a spray to make them look like “roadies”and not trailer queens and shiny
They like to never got the cars cleaned up and the days of filming were long and tedious
Pay was very low

That's what I was talking about about when I mentioned it is fun to point out the mistakes. Also dual tail lights, grill guards, colored wheels on 29s......

Not sure where that came from...We weren't criticizing anyone's specific car. I was criticizing the set designer for not using better looking background cars since they're supposed to be only a few years old....probably wouldn't be rusty and completely stripped clean. Or the fact that they have later than should be parts for the time frame of the movie.

Look at my avatar...what would I possibly be criticizing. LOL

Hamer was only issued a paper from the Texas State Police authorizing him as a special agent to hunt down Bonnie & Clyde. His only jurisdiction was in the state of Texas for that temporary order. The Governor of the state of Texas had disbanded the Texas Rangers not long prior to the time frame of of early to mid 1934. If you read anything about Ma & Pa Ferguson you will know why that was done.

When they set up to ambush the pair, it was under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff's department of Bienville Parrish, Louisiana just east of Shreveport. They made certain that they were as well equipped as Bonnie & Clyde were. They were known for their Whippet guns sawed off model 11 Remington 20 gauge and a sawed off 10 gauge Winchester lever action shotgun plus Clydes favorite BAR rifles. They were well equipped for a shoot out and Clyde wasn't going back to prison.

It is not criticizing the cars. It is criticizing the production company for not using correct vehicles for the period. This show was 1934 during the height of the great depression. Yet the oldest vehicle I saw was a 1928 AA Ford truck. So according to this movie everybody was driving nearly new cars during the depression.

Nah, there were a few t's, but not many. But I didn't think of that, there were way too many cars 6 years old or less, and especially for the depression. I look at this as a game, to see how many mistakes I could find.

I’m going to watch it tonight and see. I too pick apart movies and my wife HATES it! Ha ha
I’ll see a reflection of a camera man or camera car in a passing window and jump off the couch, point and go AH HA! See it?.....
But yes seeing a rusted out model a body in 1934 kinda gets me scratching my head.

Not us. In 1939 we had a 10 year old Hupmobile in back of the house. It hadn't run in over five years and we little kids were allowed to play in it with no restrictions. It was totalled and made into a wagon which made the 15 mile trip to town once, mostly all down hill. Loaded coming home it nearly killed the horses and was put up on blocks in the barn until the whole place was burned down in about 1954 to prevent "vagrants" from living there. We had used other wagons and carts to get to town on the few occasions we went there, until my brother and I discovered "hitchhiking." We'd walk 3 miles down the creek from our ranch and thumb a ride to town to catch a show or eat some store bought food, but mostly for ammunition for the guns that fed us throughout the year. Could be in town an hour and a half after leaving the ranch if our luck was good. By wagon three hours to town, five to eight getting back home with our load of groceries. Didn't do that often. 2=3 times per year. On the road we seldom saw a model T or A, Mostly Mid thirties, none that had ever seen a garage or been washed unless they were "City folks."

From 1909 to 1927 Ford made just over 15 million model Ts. By 1927 folks were so tired of the Ts that they quickly found a way to buy something else. The model A was only in production for four model years but over 4 million were made. They were inexpensive even for the time. Used ones were even less expensive so a lot of folks abandoned the model Ts to the back 40. The V8 was the thing to strive for after they went into production. Chevy cars were mostly wood frame bodies so they would rot away by the time they were 10-years old if they weren't well kept. That's why you don't see many early Chevrolet cars.

I have seen some contemporary photos with pretty beat up cars in them that are only a few years old. Also, they get cars on site from folks like us. I suspect that is a lot of trouble for them. They probably do the best they can under the circumstances and not being car people. As long as it is close, that is good enough for me.
