Default Do I need to bench bleed '40 master cylinder

I have done a search and read several posts on this subject. Some say I need to bench bleed others say it's not needed. Please help. I have a new '40 style master cylinder from C&G Ford. Should I bench bleed or not?

NO generally not on a single system , DO not push the pedal all the way to the floor when bleeding when you install.. Also speed bleeders are your best friend right about now.

Whether you really NEED to or not, I still do. It's just less air to pump out through the lines.

I never have.
As soon as it's installed, you fill it and start pumping fluid thru.
Bench bleed seems redundant.

No. Lines & wheel cylinders are prolly gonna be full of air anyway. Why bother!?

I've never bench bled a single one - on any car. Seems to me to be great way to get brake fluid all over the engine compartment (or frame) - that crap eats the heck out of any paint you might have.

Not saying it is a bad idea, but by the time I'm putting in a new master cylinder, I've usually screwed with the brake cylinders or calipers . . . but maybe that is just me!

It can't hurt yah - but might make a good mess!

Some master/slave cylinder with a remote resiovour are an example of a system that needs to be bench bled. As was used on B 25 towmotor clutch.

After you install and fill with fluid, leave the cap off and gently press on the brake pedal a few times. You will see bubbles escaping and that should "bleed" the cylinder just fine. Then do the lines.
