Trans trouble question ?
Was driving 29 model a coupe and the car stopped and wouldn’t go forward but I could go In reverse and was able to make way home in reverse. What should I check or any suggestions on what to look for or how to fix

Re: Trans trouble question ?
Remove the top of the transmission and make sure the shifter is engaging both forks.
You probably have one fork pushed forward or back - out of reach of the other fork when its at "neutral" position. The forks (and the matching mirror slots) have to match side by each for passage of the shifter lever from one fork right to the other fork left. It's not broke - just probably worn a bit. The shifter rails (holds forks) each have a "ball detent" in the case-top which holds them each in position between shifts. The balls or the detents they seek may be worn. New rails, balls, springs are available to repair these for relatively small money. Joe K

Re: Trans trouble question ?
What happened when it quit ? How did it act or what noise did it make ? Anything leading up to it ?
Just like Joe said, the transmitter top needs to come off and have a look around. |
