I fell in love with blue dot taillights as a kid seeing them on cool cars and dreamed of having them on mine one day. When I restored "Old Henry" in 2006 I put them on. Those, and the light in the hood ornament (another life long dream) are the only customizations I've done. Otherwise bone stock/original. They give the appearance of purple neon. I also put super bright incandescents in from Sacramento Ford to show them off better. Don't know what anyone coming up behind me thinks about them. I guess I don't rightly care. I love them and keep them. I've only had one cop mention them in one traffic stop of many I've had for other things. (Never a citation. I think they just wanted a closer look at the car) I put big magnetic reflectors on the back at night to be seen even better. Still get the occasional camera flash from passersby at night.

I guess I will have to go against the grain here too because I love them. I have them on some 48Chevy taillights on my 32 coupe. Mine show up as purple at night.

My dad had a story he used to tell about his rodding friend in the late 30's that had them on his 32 Three window. The local motor cop that used to chase them all over that part of LA pulled him over and just pulled out his revolver and used it as a hammer and busted them to pieces.

If you paint the blue dot black on the inside, the light shows up red, not blue or purple when the lights are on. Its a 50's thing.

I have blue dots on my 37 coupe, I like them, and they seem to really suit round lenses. I would also put them on my 34 if I had a pair. Does anyone have a pair of nos LYNX EYE blue dot lenses for a 33-36 they would sell?

Would these work? They're Stimsonites, not Lynx Eyes but I like Stimsonites better myself. They seem brighter.

A lot available on ebay here:

If Blue dots are installed , paint the inside reflector, with flat white will make the light brighter in the day time & make shore the dot are directly over the bulb .

Boy this group is really resto heavy

I run dots on my 48 F1. All the criticisms CAN be true if you don't make adjustments. Like ED says, paint the inside of the light bucket flat white. I run 12V so I went to 2357 rear bulbs - they're brighter than 1157s. I was able to bend the brackets some and "aim" my taillights where I wanted them. I realize you guys with cars can't do that.

I also went with a 10" LED strip in my back window as a third brakelight.

I've driven dots from Montana to Ohio via Denver and Wichita without meeting any LEOs. Also into Alberta with the same results.....but like Vic, maybe nobody could catch up to see them lol. Come on out, the are legal in MT!

I had them on my old Harley when I was younger, but I'd never put them on a car nowadays. I Just like the look of original better.

When I was a kid, I got pulled over for only having one tail light. The cop didn't want to believe me that the car came from the factory with one tail light. I finally convinced him, and he let me go. 40 tudor standard. Ken, you are right. They wouldn't know the difference.
