Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
This 33-34 drop lever appears to be a door lock lever altered to repair the drop lever or else an aftermarket part to repair the often broken switch lever. It fits perfectly. Has anyone seen this done before?

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
If it fits ignition switch the shank must be tapered inside, which sort of takes it out of the DIY category. Like yourself, it's a first for me.

Interesting....Like David and 34fordy, a first for me as well....I wonder if they are unique to a particular model year.....

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
I've had them for years(probably sine the early 60's) got them when I bought a bunch of NOS stuff from a guy who bought out an old Ford dealer in Calistoga , Ca in the 50's. Got Model T parts, Model A parts and some NOS 34 Ford rear and front fenders, plus a lot of Ford hardware. I was in to Model T's in those days, so sold off the A and V-8 stuff and got all my money back plus had the T parts for free. I kept some T stuff to help build my 1921 roadster and sold the rest at the Reno swap meet and doubled my money. Thought I hit a home run!
In addition to the levers I got a bunch of the headlamp bolts with the hole in them for the horn wire. Still have a few of those left also. |

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
Since they are cast there is little chance they are assembled from two parts. Most likely a non Ford part. The 33-34 on/off lever is also used on other cars. I believe Southside Obsolete has the proper Ford style lever NOS.

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
They sure look like the same lever that was in my '33 Fordor that was a real nice original car. Maybe Ford had different vendors for this stuff?

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
If you look at the first picture I posted you can see that the tapered recess for the hold down screw is small, like the door lock lever. The original screw would protrude out too far.

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
Looks like an original but broken switch lever with a '34 door lock lever scabbed on to it....

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
Me three. However, the door lock levers are crimped over to hold an insert. If it is a door lock lever, someone did a PERFECT job cutting the crimp off and making the resulting hole perfectly round and exactly the right diameter. Any person that works with metal would know that holding a thin stamped brass irregular object sufficient to remove metal and have a round hole afterward would be very difficult. (My highschool English teacher would not be very proud of me for that "run-on-sentence"! LOL. This lever was on my 34 when I purchased it. There was a time when money was scarce and people did the best they could to repair things. Heck, I have been doing that all my life.

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
Is calling the ignition switch lever a "drop lever" a regional thing? At first I thought this post was from the UK or down under. I wasn't sure what was being asked about!

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
I just assumed that drop lever would be OK as it is the lever on the column drop. My mind is probably "down under" most of the time. The parts book calls it (column drop) lock assembly:steering and ignition. Sorry for the confusion. I have no idea why it is sometimes referred to as column drop.

Re: Fixer's idea or aftermarket?
Not satisfied with Ford's nomenclature, there are those who create their own. My favorite is "mast jacket" with nary a sail or boat in sight.
