Need key for Cabriolet
I bought a nice Cabriolet today. The seller's house burned a while back and the key to the car was in the house. How do I determine what key number I need and where do I get a new key? Any good Cabriolet sites out there?

https://www.flickr.com/groups/114417...7618701086945/ There's a Cabriolet Special Interest Group listed in the sticky notes at the top of the MODEL A discussion section. Tell us more about your car. What year, color etc. (post a picture) If your pop out is original and not been messed with it will have the key number on it. You have to remove it from the panel in order to see the #. Depending if it's an early popout or a late popout will determine where the number is stamped. The standards say the early #'s were stamped on the bezel ring and the late ones the # was relocated to the face of the lock cylinder. Last edited by foxfire42; 01-29-2019 at 10:08 PM. |

Re: Need key for Cabriolet
Thanks for the info. It is blue with black fenders. Was going to car shows until the owner began to be unable to do so. I won't get it out of the barn until the weekend when weather is supposed to be good. I cant post a picture on here.

Should a good locksmith be able to make a key without having one to duplicate?

Re: Need key for Cabriolet
I just had a door key made for me by quoting the number on the square shaft. A friend in Az arranged it for me. The locksmith sent 2 blanks just in case his key didn't work. It did so I have 2 blanks somewhere.

It will take a locksmith knowledgeable with early Ford. Unfortunately those have become scarce They will have to know the blanks. Check with Steve at Berts 800 321-1931 |

Re: Need key for Cabriolet
Can you post a photo of your ignition switch? If you have a repro switch, replacement switch bodies with keys are either about $10. or $50. depending on which one you choose. If you have an original popout ignition switch, then the key number will be stamped on the switch as foxfire stated above. Either way, Bert will be able to get you going.

Re: Need key for Cabriolet
Congratulations! My former 68-a was the most comfortable to drive of the seven Model A’s I have owned in the past 40 years. Now at a good home in California where it can be used year ‘round.
