What is the best procedure for removing a broken off idle jet?

Re: Idle jet
If all else fails, you could soak the carb in ammonia for several days. Ammonia dissolves brass. Of course, everything else brass would dissolve too, like the passageway plugs. But then you'd be able to clean out those passages really well, and you's have to replug them.

Re: Idle jet
I'm assuming it is a Zenith carb you can put the casting in an oven and bake it at 250F for an hour and then use an easy out.

Re: Idle jet
Sorry to be a bit of a pessimist but although the above methods (add to which a blowtorch) sometimes work, be prepared to buy a replacement upper body.

Re: Idle jet
Cancel that query, just read Tom Endy article on Ford Zenith carb restoration, and carb dis-assembly. Heat casting area cherry red, plunge into cold water, then I sprayed some pb blaster, let it cook for 1/2 hour. Then preparing to drill it out and it spun right round and came out with finger tips. Great to see something work as it should!!
