Re: 35 rumble lid
I don't know about 35s, but on 34s you don't turn the trunk lids. Both trunk and rumble seats use the same lid. On the trunk it is attached to hinges at the top, for a rumble seat the hinges are removed and a swivel mechanism is attached to the sides.

Re: 35 rumble lid
'35 and 36 need a to have a drain lip installed on the bottom. There's a guy in Washington that makes the lip, but they are not cheap. A friend of mine is now making the conversion and it's a fair amount of work. He did tell me that the repo drain lip does fit well. Cost for the lip/channel was about $900.

1935-36 trunk lid hinges are also very expensive - if you can find them. As well the brackets that the hinges bolt to are not present on rumble seat cars.

Here are some photos that show the various components involved with the conversion. In addition to the drip lip being modified, the lock strikers have to be switched, rumble pivot arms installed, a water dam attached to the floor behind the seat and seat back hangers attached. It can be done, but its not a simple process.

The only source for these hoses is to use washing machine drain hoses that extend down into the lower portion of trunk area. I removed a complete rumble seat assembly from a '36 Ford in 1961. I was going to convert my coupe to a RS car. Started and stopped the project many times over a twenty-five year time span. Every time I would start to cut the drip rail off, I'd stop and think about the damage I was going to inflict upon the body to accomplish what? I would then put everything away for awhile. Finally sold the whole RS assembly to a man that had been pestering me for years. The man kinda choked on the $1,200. price, however, it was the last remaining part (s) he needed for his '36 Roadster. Everyone was happy, he had a RS, I did not cut my car up and I had $1,200.

Re: 35 rumble lid
Also , the lid only fits the opening one way , it is not reversible. The handle opening will have to be cut out and moved too.

Re: 35 rumble lid
If I read the original post correctly, it sounds like the poster has the rumble and wants to convert back to a trunk lid.

Re: 35 rumble lid
Take a close look at Don Rogers' photo of the inside of the deck lid. If you flipped the lid 180 degrees, the deck lid hinges would attach at the bottom of the lid rather than at the top where they belong. You can do that easily with the photo and it will then be obvious.

Re: 35 rumble lid
It is designed to fit the opening only 1 way. As DavidG said, look closely at the inside diagram picture that Don Rogers provided. Also notice the details not labeled like the fact that it has latch mount openings top and bottom and the stampings for the rumble seat hinges. It really is obvious.
