Default Black gas line problem

Been doing some changes on my 41, new gas tank, fuel pump, rebuilt carb, fuel pressure regulator, fuel gauge, and fuel lines. Had black stuff in carb after running a while getting everything adjusted. Started running rough, checked carb. and found small black stuff in bowl and filter. Went to local hot rod shop for a visit, and to show him my car. He said for me to change all the regular black gas lines to fuel injection lines and there would be no more black crap in carb, this new gas will eat the other regular gas line. Thought I'd pass this along in case you didn't know. Can't get out to work anymore for a few days because of storm. Al

Robert Shewman has pre-made alcohol resistant fuel lines for early Fords etc.

I have had one on my '41 for over 6 years.

Make sure that any fuel lines you buy are compatible with ethanol/gas mix.

Why would they sell hose that isn't? That blasted ethanol is EVERYWHERE!

I bought the first gas line a couple of weeks ago, regular black line. Had to ask for fuel injection line at same (O Riley's) parts store, it comes on a green spool and is listed as such. Al

Napa carries a fuel line resistant to breakdown called Blockade. Has a green stripe on it. FWIW..

A few years ago I bought a '60 Lark wagon from Arizona, trailered it back home, drove it into the garage and started to smell gas. The newer rubber hose from the tank to the hard line turned to black goo...the whole line was like chewing gum. Always use good quality fuel injection line (like Gates Barricade).

Guess I'm off to napa again tomorrow to replace all my new connector lines on the woodie.

Hose needs to meet spec j30r14t1 for carbs. For high pressure FI the final digit is 2. Walk away from j30r7 or 9. My new in-line filters came with r7. I bought gates barricade from rockauto.
