Default Sport coupe belt moulding

I have two questions, to separate the moulding from the tack strip do I just very carefully pry it apart and what do I do with the little tabs on the ends. How do they attach?

The tabs at each end go under and are held by the door latch striker. The finish moulding may with care be seperated from the tack strip.

I am posting a picture below that shows how the end of a beltrail moulding piece is installed.

I have pictures of my Sport Coupe at this location, but do not know how to unload them from Photo bucket, used to know how to do it but they have screwed it all up.

Dick,
I think I got the pictures when you posted them on the old Fordbarn and I saved them on my computer. Thanks for posting them back then. I have saved a lot of helpful pictures that have been posted on Fordbarn.

Do any of you gentlemen happen to have one of these tack strip combos you want to part with? I need a setup for my 29 business coupe.

I have started to try and tweak mine apart but decided to stop and soak it in PB blaster for a day or two to loosen it up. It's in really nice shape and I don't want to FUBAR it.

Ray,
They are hard to find, I looked for over 5 years to find mine. At one time Sacramento Vintage Ford had a repo unit, not sure of the quality or if they still have them. Back to working on my A's along with the 1969 Mach 1 that I got from Portland!

Mac,
I sprayed kroil on mine a few times then let it sit for a week and it came apart fairly easy.

Here's a trick, soak the parts with PB blaster for a couple of weeks and then use 3 or 4 1" putty knives as pry bars to separate the pieces. if it won't move. keep soaking the parts. leave the putty knives that you can get in the moulding and let it act as leverage. Just be patient with it and you'll get it apart. Remember it took 80 years to get that way.

If you don't wish to separate the inner and outer parts of the moulding. You may be able to slightly modify a toilet bowl flange screw. The flat screw head can ingage the inner moulding edges. Drill through the body wood and tighten the screws from inside to pull the moulding tight. Several spaced along the belt rail pull it in nicely.
