The stock Ford color for 1940 is the best I have ever found. I have not used other colors.

On the subject of engine paint does anyone have a tip for keeping the paint on the intake manifold under the carb from burning off?

Ford bronze from C&G is excellent. It is a PPG commercial coatings paint. Spray can or a pint can. Spray it as it comes in the can, no need to reduce.
Regarding the intake, this stuff has held up for 5 years or so. No burn off.

i ordered paint from c&g their catalog shows ppg paint but they sent macs and added almost 20 dollars to the price, calling them tomorrow and telling them to send a call tag. this is from their new catalog less than a month old, seems like false advertising..........
