Default Harmonic balancer removal

How is the harmonic balancer removed from a 272 "Y" block. I have no tapped holes to mount the puller.

If the engine was a full-size car engine (not a T-bird), the crankshaft pulley does have two tapped holes for mounting of the add-on power-steering pulley. Cars that didn't have power assist did not have the pulley but they all had the two tapped holes for it. Anytime I have ever pulled my crankshaft damper, I just used a steering wheel puller. You made need to clean out the threaded holes in the damper with a tap-wire brush of the right size, and possibly run the proper size tap thru them.
Always put something round and flat between the end of the crankshaft and the center bolt on the puller so that that bolt doesn't bugger up the threads in the crankshaft for the damper center bolt. I have often used a short bolt of the same thread that the crankshaft damper center bolt is and screwed it in all the way.
Using the bolt, you don't need to get a piece of rod stock and try to hold it in place while tightening the puller.

Thanks Dave. I thought that would work but nice to have it explained by someone else. Got it off easily.
