Tony, I don't have my book handy, but I am wondering if the book says that all of the above tools mentioned came from the factory with every new '35/'36 passenger car produced and sold in the USA? I know many folks have a complete display as jfcrash has pictured but did all of this actually come with every new car. I think Glenn is wanting to know exactly what he needs to display in the way of tools with his car, on the concourse, in anticipation of receiving a Dearborn Award for his '35 Deluxe Tudor Sedan.

Re: What tools came 1935 cars
We need Don Roger's advice on the question of the jack handles as I am under the impression that some '35-'36 open cars' jack handle were the more compact three-piece version, unlike B-17081, which is a more space consuming two-piece design. In the photo in #3 above, the jack handle appears to be the three-piece version for what was evidently a cabriolet given the "CAB" writing in the corner of the lower compartment and the top iron wrench in the lower left corner of the upper compartment.

Re: What tools came 1935 cars
I often wondered, just how many of those tools sprouted legs and ran away, before the customer first got their car? I bet a lot of them.
We bought a new F-150 in 1998. It was the 50th Anniv. of the Ford F-Series trucks. As part of the deal, Ford included a number of give-aways with your purchase; blankets, trinkets, coffee cups, hats, brochures, picture postcards,a model, ink pens, all sorts of stuff. Our truck came out of a Ford dealer near Chicago. We didn't get any of that, and only learned about it after a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, and two guys I worked with each bought a brand new 1998 F-150 from two different local small town Ford dealership. A phone call to the Chicago suburb got the expected canned answer... 'Uh. we don't know anything about any of that. No we don't have it. Never heard of that.'' |

Re: What tools came 1935 cars
DavidG...The 2-piece jack handle (B-17081) was a carry-over from 1934 production and used with early carry-over jacks from 1934. When the new 1935 jacks were released in early January 1935, a new 3-piece jack handle (48-17081) was also introduced. Most 35 and later 36 production used this 3-piece design. For those interested in more information, 1935 and 36 Ford tools are covered fairly well on pages 144 thru 149 in The 1935-36 Ford Book.

Re: What tools came 1935 cars
Don,
Thanks; so it wasn't just with the open cars. Next time, I'll first look in your book. Consistent with its part number, B-17081 was first used as the standard jack handle for the '32 passenger cars and commercial vehicles. BB-17081 was the handle for the big truck jacks. |
