Default I"m back ! (finally)

It feels great to be back on Fordbarn! For me, a real accomplishment! My old E-machines puter finally "Virused" out. I refused to buy the updates and like many an old car or engine, I just rode it till it died! (8Years)
Now I have a new HP laptop and this takes some getting used to. It is loaded with Windows 8.1, which is the worst Windows O.S. I have ever had the displeasure of owning! I have only had this thing a matter of hours and I had to take it back to the seller to get a password. One cannot do this by yourself as it involves another computer and some security codes(?) Who actually needs this stuff? Windows 8.1 requires that you register with Microsoft, something I never did before. Just a gentle warning that if you need a new puter, Find one with EP or Windows 7,This 8.1 is a real PITA! OH yeah, I wanted to also say, it's great for ads, no matter what, the ads get through really well!

I refused to buy a computer with windows 8 after reading all
the negatives, I am now the happy owner of a Mac.

Terry we just went thru the same thing and I absolutely agree with you. They tell me that so many people are sick and tired of the 'updated' Windows 8.0 and 8.1, that they are so much trouble, that in April Microsoft is coming out with Windows 10.0 ( because that sounds distant from the crap they've been building lately.) The changes were stupid, just something to line their pockets w/ more cash.

Yes give me Windows XP any day it worked great. Microsoft allegedly dropped the support for XP to make people buy new computers. Now they want you to pay monthly fees or a big upfront fee to get Microsoft Office that used to be free. My grandson said 'no way' and set me up with a free application that works good one they use in school.

This is the last Microsoft I ever plan on owning Definitely Mac next time.

Apple / Mac runs like a Rolls Royce compared to Microsoft products.

I have been using a Mac since I had to give up my Amiga 4000 when Commodore went under (sad day), but I have never had to use windows, and have never seen a virus! Now on a Mac Pro and a 4K samsung as my monitor.

But if you have an alternator, you should be OK as long as you are using Rotella 15W40. Not sure if White Walls would help or not, haven't tried them.

Welcome back, know what you mean by trying to ditch the damn things. I too got virused out on Windows 7. The "consultant" wanted to sell me a windows 8. Went to a local computer shop and they took it ran it overnight and did some other things and cleaned it out. Expensive I thought, but not as much as a Windows 8, and works good now.

What the hell does this have to do with Model A's????

Interesting that someone posts a thread on a period modification/add-on and the thread is met with disdain (you know who you are, one-star bandit), but we can discuss the finer points of modern mods and/or technology and it's good as gold.

Ridiculous.

You guys sound like Windsor owners bashing Ford in the 1920's. Easy to take potshots at the top guy.

BTW, I'm not the 1-star guy!

Having working with UNIX/Linux for 25 years (IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, SGI IRIX HP-UX, Linux), if you're short on cash for a Apple Mac, load this

http://www.linuxmint.com

On your PC... After all Apple OS X is a child of BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) UNIX Operating system.

I have a duel Core Mac and can run Windows if I have to but not by choice (I think most Mac's these days can). My Grandson sometimes runs into problems because the schools and public libraries have Windows machines.

https://www.virtualbox.org is what I used to make virtual machines on my personal as well as my work Macbook... New Mac today have 4 cores, and the only slow point is RAM... 8G min for doing virtual's with any respectable.. Folks
can try out Linux on top of Windows in the same manner....

We just had everything wiped from our google machine and re loaded. Microsoft stuff just bogged itself but we use Ecet anti virus software now. It's Australian and reportedly, the best going round. Cheaper than the old Norton too.
