Question Need help with Ford model 8ba carburetor

I have a 1951 car with a flathead v8 that I am trying to put back on the road. I bought a carb kit from Shoebox Central for the Ford 8ba carb that is on it. The kit instructions show a accelerator pump discharge needle in the carb but my carb is missing it and the kit does not have a replacement for it. I have another car for parts and the 8ba on it is also missing the discharge needle. Should there be a needle in this carb? Apparently both cars had been running without it. If it is needed where can they be purchased? MY DILEMMA HAS BEEN RESOLVED. THANKS FOR EVERYONES HELP!

Get hold of "Charlie ny" on here. He's the resident carb guru on the board, and I'm sure he can help you out, whether it's parts, advice, or a complete rebuild.

The discharge needle is not a needle per say, but the squirters, through which the accelerator pump injects the gas into the venturi. This prevents a stumble when the throttle plates first open.

Ahhhhh I think? Of this I am sure, you won't find it in any kit, it's not a rebuild part.

Returned after doing some homework: there is a pump discharge needle, that sits
below the pump discharge nozzel (squirters ). Looks to be for preventing a rich mixture
or flooding in rough terrain.Prevents fuel entering the venturi when the accelerator
pump is not in a stroke or pump condition. I can see how a car would run without it.

That needle under the squirter is a check valve. If you need one, I can send you one.
