Default Selling a car

A friend of mine has a person in Pa interested in buying his 47 coupe, Pa is a title state, NY is not for cars that age. Has anyone had any experience with this issue ?
Thanks

I would have the person in Pennsylvania go to a DMV office and find out what they require.

It's better than depending on some amateur legal advice obtained on an enthusiast's board and will be current.

Whatever he does DO NOT loose the Pa title if it has one. Far as NY non title tell him
for a notarized bill of sale , you are dealing with brain dead's. You want brain dead
idiots come to Masshole , not long, a title and license for a lawnmower ! Watch its coming

"flathead48" makes a good point. Here in Minnesota, there are DMV offices and there are DMV offices. What works for one may not work at another. I live within a half hour of two DMV offices. The closer one is OK for getting your tabs, etc., but if I need to do anything complicated, I drive the extra 15 minutes and try to speak with one representative that seems to specializes in this sort of thing.

What worked for somebody in Wilkes-Barre may not go through in Natrona Heights.

Exactly

Folks contact me that are trying to sell their
vehicle asking me how much transport will be
for a prospective buyer.

I tell them to focus on the sale - offer to store the car
at no charge for a reasonable amount of time
if the prospective buyer pays for it in full.

If you do the research for your prospective
buyer and they pull the trigger based on your
advice - they will blame you if something
goes wrong with their decision.

Its not a big deal............done everyday.

find a good tag agency and dont be afraid to pay them. they are worth it!

tag agencies are what PA uses.

Check your DMV to see if they offer a "bonded title" transaction procedure when planning to license an older vehicle. This grants title for the inclusion of a specified bond amount. If, at a later date, someone makes a claim of ownership, the most they can claim is the bond.
Over the many years I have been in the old car hobby, I have seen expensive, fully restored vehicles claimed as the target of a scam. I once considered a car where the "owner" said he had a good title, but hadn't located it yet. I ran a search and found that there were five legal liens recorded against the car arising from unpaid loans It took a very long time to clear these obstacles before I was confirmed as the owner,

Thanks to all for taking the time to answer . I am not buying a car my friend who lives in NYS is selling his 47 coupe. The person who is interested in buying it lives in Pa. I was just interested in knowing if any barner who lives in a non title state ever sold a car to someone in Pa or if someone in Pa ever bought a car from a non title state and what issues were involved. I suggested using a tag co. Again thanks to all

I bought a car from a non-title state and registered (titled) it in Mississippi. DMV said I needed a notorized bill of sale and two previous years' registration from seller. Transaction went smoothly.

The members from NY can correct me if I am wrong, but back in the "no title days" the registration was actually the title. If there are old registrations, maybe this would suffice.

Correct, registrations were transferable.
In 1973 New York State implemented the title.
Even thought New York State still issues a registration
Only the title is transferable.
