Default 55 272 Temp Sender

The current temp sender in my 272 has two prongs on it. I assume it is a carry over from the flathead, and I will just need to use one of the connections for my temp gauge. Is this correct, or do I need a new sender. Haven't hooked it up yet. Maybe I should try that first? Thanks....

Yes there is a single wire to the sender from the gauge, just use one terminal and ignore the other.

I'm also reminded of the phrase, If it ain't broke don't fix it.
The new/replacement style senders don't always work well when mixed with oem gauges.

55 is 6 volts with two prongs and threaded screws on each prong, 56 is 12 volts With two prongs with no threaded screws. Sometimes there is a 12v stamp on the side of the sender to identify it. What volt is your system?

My system is 6 volt, but I will have to double check the sender connectors. Thanks

Last time I looked, most of the repro parts suppliers offer the temp sending unit for both '55 (6-volt) and '56 (12-volt). Real expensive now around $50 bucks. Whew.
