Default The Business Coupe?

Anyone out there know anything about business coupes? I'am looking at a 1928.
Are they sport coupes without fake hinges? Are there any other differences. Just a less expensive sport coupe? Sure would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, Bill

Basically Yes, in what you are saying is they are a Sport Coupe without the "hinges" ( a/k/a Landau Irons ). The interior trim (upholstery) was more Spartan because, again this was an inexpensive bodystyle for the business person to drive around to make sales calls. The 1928 version of the Biz Coupe did not have the ¼ windows whereas the '29s did.

In addition to what Brent says, the '28 Business Coupe came with a trunk. The Sport Coupe came with a rumble seat as standard. They are actually a really neat model.

Thanks for the information. I have had a standard 29 coupe for the last 49 years and it used almost daily.not restored. My uncle bought this 28 business coupe in 1952 from the the original owner. He passed away this year and so I can purchase it from my cousin I think. It's a nice car not been driven in the last 40 years but has been stored in a dry area. I rode in it a lot as a kid and thought it would be fun to get it going again. Bill

Sounds like a good purchase to me, and nice to keep it in the family. I always like to find good original cars, but there aren't too many left these days.

There were only about 36,400 business coupes made each year, in 28 and 29 only. A good original of either year is hard to find, because owners would add the landau irons to make them look like sport coupes, and/or the cloth tops would rot or tear, water would get inside, and rustout would ensue. I wouldn't classify this model as rare, but I feel lucky to have found a 29 in good shape after over five years of searching.
