Default Help request 31 window felt channel removal

Help! What is the best way to remove the window felt channels? As can be seen, mine are old and worn out and must be replaced.

The reverse will also be true, how do I best reinstall the window felt channels?

Thanks,

Hello JohnB15632,

I would contact Steve at Bert's about some suggestions/troubleshooting. Also, I found an article by Tom Endy on install window channels on a Victoria which has some of the top of the window restrictions as the 31 sedan (you can't take off the top part of the window to help insert the glass. I performed a search within the Barn on this topic and found some previous threads with links to his articles/club website. I had to remove the front windows out of my 31 sedan to get to the door latches. I had the same question about reinstalling the glass so that it would not break. Steve suggested that you place the felt onto the windows then install the window+felts together into the doors. Then secure the felt, then secure the window to the regulator. He stated he had done three 31 sedans. I am just waiting for the felt to arrive later this week for my install.

What burner31 posted in #3 is the same article from Tom Endy that I was citing in my post in #2.

Thank you Burner 31. I just got my felt kit and was pondering how to install them. I have a '31 ccpu, but assume the procedure is the same.

John I think you are talking the 1/4 window felt. they have some tacks in them just pull it off pull the tacks install the new vertical felts and tack them in place and glue in the rubber for the top. I always glue in the upper rubber after the window is installed then install the upper rubber and roll the window up to hold the rubber in place

As JW says, that's a good way. In the doors, the felts have to pass thru the latch area/ channel. One way is to sometimes remove the bottom felt clip, then slide the felt down from the top with the window /regulator in the door. Then reinstall the bottom clip with pop rivets and slide the felt up to engage the top slot.Sometimes raising up the window will push up the felt. Also, may be best to firstly body -color paint the window surrounds which are visible, then install felts.
