Question Grease for the u-joint?

I've always used just general chassis lube, but is there something new and improved that you would recommend?

I was just wondering this myself - good timing!

I guess maybe a synthetic grease may be slightly better, but I'm not sure the grease is being worked too hard in there anyway.

The grease is more likely a filler for the cavity and the natural leakage out the rear of the tranny is what may really lubricate the U-joint and the front driveshaft bearing and speedo gear.

Take a look at John Deere corn head grease. It is designed to stay in the cavity and settle back where it can lubricate and not just be thrown to the outside and create a cavity. Go to the John Deere website and they explain it very well.

I never have trouble using Mystik JT-6 High Temp grease. It's very sticky and clings well to the parts. I also have never seen it dry out like some grease, such as the white lithium grease I used to use years ago for assembly.

If using original type transmitter bearings that are not sealed, regular grease is fine and will end up being mixed with the transmitter oil leaking thru the rear bearing.
If the bearing has been replaced with a sealed unit then a loose grease or a mixed 'slop' [ technical term] can be made and used.

I use CV joint grease with a little bit of 600 gear oil.
