Let's talk rear drum lamps
I have questions about the early rear drum lamps with the Ford scripts. The Judging Standards says that the first type rear lamp is engraved with Duolamp and Ford script and the later design was embossed with the Duolamp and Ford script. When was this change and is there proof that one was earlier than the other? Also, what about the one with the larger Ford script and "Duolight" embossed below the script? They must have been a '70's reproduction? Here are some pictures of ones I have. The engraved on I have is being worked on at the moment.

The original one that is on my A1276, and came with the car when I got it in 1978, is embossed like your photo # 1. Ron |

Re: Let's talk rear drum lamps
Maybe not really relevant to this discussion, but here's one off of a Canadian made body- note there's no embossed "Ford" at all.

Re: Let's talk rear drum lamps
DO you guys know when the transition was from drum to teacup on AA's? Mines a march of 29. The vendor catalogs say it should be drum... I have no remnants of anything or even the bracket it would bolt to...
teacup is much cheaper to do haha

Re: Let's talk rear drum lamps
Here is a Canadian Ford drum tailight. Incidentally this came off the First AA Truck sold in the area.

Re: Let's talk rear drum lamps
My 9-27-28 Phaeton and my 2-23-29 Tudor have the same cover. I bought identical replacements from A&L back in the 90's, but still have the original covers somewhere. The original nickel plated brass has several cracks.

Re: Let's talk rear drum lamps
Here are photos of what I believe is an original on my 28 Leatherback (Oct 2, 27 build date). It does not have the Ford script. It appears to have nickle plating. It this really original?

The red lens looks like a repro. All the originals I've seen have a darker red and most have a swirl in the glass. |

Tom, Yes, I did mean Oct 2, 28. Fat fingers I guess. I will also go out and check for the swirl in the glass.
