Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
You should point the '39 south on the NJ Tpk. and come on down to the Florida "Barner's Bash".

It is all of that accumulated pizza that does you in.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
I've been playin' in the garage, trying to get the '39 LZ buttoned up for the "Barner's Bash" next weekend and, it's the same old story... one steep forward... two steeps back... but, the good news is she's running and I'm planning on driving her at least one of the three days of the Florida "Barner's Bash"

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Ok, I find myself impaled on the horns of a dilemma, where the '39 LZ is concerned. I'm hoping that some of you might have a viable solution to this latest situation. I got the correct wiper motor and switch for the '39 LZ however, the switch is spring loaded, and the only thing that keeps it from falling through its mount on the top of the dash, is the knob. Here's the problem; I haven't as yet painted the dash, etc. so, I don't want to use the re-popped plastic knob (according to the installation instructions, they need to be glued on). I took some '49 Ford dash knobs, that have set screws, but I had to hone them out so they would fit over the switch shaft... That caused a loss of threads and now the set screw won't set... I'll need to remove the switch, etc. to paint the dash, once I'm ready to do that so, I've got to come up with a doable solution to the problem, short of stripping everything and painting the dash, etc. Got any good ideas... I hope. Thanks

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
There are aftermarket aluminum knobs that have set screws and are relatively thick in the shaft area. Maybe they have enough "meat" to be able to drill and still have set screw threads. They can be painted if the aluminum is offensive.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Vic, as 40cpe has suggested I'd go with the aluminum ones. I needed a knob for my air vent that wouldn't come off when I'd pull (hard) on it. I got one of those aluminum knobs and had to drill the hole bigger and I still had enough threads left for the set screw. I'll see if I can find the vendor and email/PM you. Good luck.

Gene & Gene, thanks, I'll look into that as a solution.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
We just got back from an extended trip to Amelia Island, Florida where we attended the 20th Concours d'Elegance. I'll post a few of the Flathead photos I took, later. I've also started a Cigar City Flatheads page on FaceBook (it's much easier to post photos over there ) so, I'll have extended coverage of the event posted there early next week. I'm looking forward to getting back into the garage to continue playing with my Flatheads.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
It has been a while but, we were back in the garage last Saturday, getting a lot of things done on Don's '50 rag top, in preparation to fire it up and move it out of the garage. Next in line is the rebuild of the '39 CS steering box. Thanks to Mac Van Pelt, for all the NOS parts to do the rebuild. The '39 LZ has been running very well, I've been enjoying some topless cruisin with her lately. I'm planning on stripping the paint on the dash, console and windshield garnish molding, and repainting them to match door garnish and wheels, before I reinstall the instrument cluster and new knobs.
I've started a page for the Cigar City Flatheads on FaceBook (its a lot easier to post photos) so, if you find yourself 'surfing the net', check it out and "like" us on FaceBook. You'll find a bunch of Flathead related pages on FaceBook along with some very cool photos of all kinds of Flatheads.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
Yesterday, Don, Steve and Dick came over to play in the garage. We finished up the brakes on Don's '50 rag top, installed the driver side inner fender, and ran the wiring harness to the generator, etc. by the time we finished, it was, you guessed it... time for PIZZA. Thanks to Dick and Steve, for taking the long drives from their homes to come and play.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour
If any of you are interested in continuing to follow our antics, with our Flatheads and PIZZA, I'll be shifting a lot of my postings (with photos especially) over to the Cigar City Flatheads page on FaceBook. FaceBook is much more user friendly, when it comes to posting photos, you don't need to use another photo hosting site, you can post photos directly from your computer. Oh, if you do visit us on FaceBook, you can join the group or at least. 'like us' on FaceBook. Thanks. Vic
