Gene, I'm not looking for them to help me install the Vintique part, (I don't want to use it). I want to know if they make a unit that will fit, and work, with the OEM radio installed.

Vic, I saw a new conversion set up at the Tri State Truck show in Winchester, Va 3 weeks ago that had Bob drake name on it and it said the OEM radio wouldn't work with it. I don't know if it is made for drake by Vintique or not, but it looked like the motor hung way down below the windshield. It also said it would fit with no other alterations. The motor was hanging in a vertical position.

Vic,
If you have # 47-4050 that is liste on LMC, it is totally different that the one I described on the previous post. That one is similar to the original electric wiper motor on my '52 F 7.

Cecil, the part # of the one they sent me is: 47-4052. I'm not happy about the part being from Vintique either, as I have not had good luck with their products.

Vic with all your friends that you let use your garage, surely one of them would volunteer to ride on the running board and work your wipers. LOL

Vic, if you haven't checked Speedway Motors, here is the link to the model they have:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1951-5...-Kit,8723.html It did not address anything regarding the stock radio but I do know they have a real tech department. See you next week. Steve

Steve, I just checked with Speedway and it looks like the same unit that LMC Truck has. They also couldn't tell me if the unit will fit and work with the OEM radio installed. I'm waiting for a call back from New Port Engineering but, I think they sell the same piece... Looks Like I'll have to mess with the OEM Vacuum unit to get it working again... Too bad Ford didn't place the wiper motor on the engine side of the firewall...

I was afraid of that for usually the parts houses get their stocks from what few OEMs in the classic car / truck market. Try spraying some white lithium grease on all the linkage joints. I did this along with squirting a little 3 & 1 oil into the wiper motor of my 46 and the wipers run terrific.

Yup, I've done that in the past. The odd thing is, the wiper motor works when I remove the wiper arms and blades but not when the arms and blades are installed. The wiper set up I have, with a vacuum holding tank, was working very well however, now they are as effective as a screen door in a submarine when it comes to keeping water off the windshield... Oh well, I've still got a few days to mess with it, and, there's always Rain-X.

Ok, here's an enigma... I went out this morning and started messin' with the OEM vacuum wiper system. I had the wiper motor rebuilt a number of years ago, and everything worked just fine until I let the truck sit for several months without using the wipers. Now, the wiper motor will work as long as the wiper arms and blades are removed (not helpful when its raining) I lubed the motor on the inside and greased the wiper arm assembly. Now, the motor will operate with one wiper arm and blade in place but will not work with both I've checked the vacuum hose, etc. and everything appears to be in good working order... I can't figure out why it will work with one and not both arms and blades in place. Got any ideas...

I hope you get the wiper fixed. I would hate to drive to Florida, just to be the wiper man. LOL

Vic, this is a real long shot...swap the existing wiper arms and see if the same thing happens. You could also pull a wiper arm from another one of your cars, say the 47 convertible and check the results. It may seem like a silly suggestion but you never know.

There is a lot of "drag" with a dry wiper blade and dry windshield. Try wetting the glass like it was raining. Maybe too much pressure from the blade against the glass.

John, I did that, and tested with both wiper arms and blades... no good... I took one off and it worked... So, at least I've got a working wiper for the drivers side... I'll keep messin' with it and see if it comes back to fully functioning.

Well I would think there is either too much drag in the wiper mechanism or the wiper motor. If lubing it helped for one blade would running it for a while loosen it up? If you have good vacuum and the motor is not leaking it about has to be drag. Anyway the motor has corrosion inside of it?

JSeery, Everything worked fine for a good number of years before I let the truck sit. I'm guessing that things will loosen up after the lube has a chance find its way into all the parts. I'll keep trying with the hose putting a good volume of water on the windshield, to see if things improve with both wiper arms and blades attached. The wiper motor should not have any corrosion inside but, that is a possibility...

Well, we finally got a chance to get back in the garage and mess with some Fatheads. Here's a shot of today's crew, from left, Don, me, Keith and Cliff.

We got the dash wiring done in Don's '50 Rag Top,

and some fixin' on Keith's '36 roadster

with a little help from his daughter, Angelique
and, before we knew it, it was PIZZA time...

We also got a bit more done on the '39 LZ, and we drove the '39 CS to lunch.

Thanks to the guys and gal for all the help and to Don for treating us to PIZZA!

Gene, we are trying to get some cars/trucks ready for the ride up to see you and other intrepid "Barner's" on the White Knuckle Tour and the Moonshine Festival. Vic
