Default Purpose of hole in top of door

I am restoring my '30 Briggs fordor and have been working around a small (7/32") hole on the top of the drivers side door. The hole goes through the top trim metal of the door to the wood. It is about 1" from the hinge side of the door. I can see no purpose for the hole. Does anyone know what this is for, or does anyone else have a similar hole? I may weld it up or pretend it is bullet hole... I can take some photos tomorrow if it is necessary. Thanks ahead of time.

Maybe a rubber bumper to stop rattles over those washboard gravel roads.
