Default 59A oil leak from behind flywheel

Got reco engine running and it was OK for a bit...65 pounds oil pressure.

Then it suddenly is pouring oil out from behind flywheel.

Pulling engine today.

I misplaced the original grub screw at the end of oil gallery, and made up a grub screw to fit.

I have since found the original and it looks to be a bit tapered to seal better.

My grub screw was a piece of cut bolt so it was straight and although I put sealer on it , it must be the culprit.

I am guessing I will find the screw has leaked pressurised oil and blown the cover gasket out .

It was too sudden and too much oil for anything to do with the main rear seal I think.

What is the general consensus?

I'd say that's your problem.

I believe that plug is 1/4 NPT, so a bolt would definitely not work.

Yup, pulled the engine and the lousy bolt bit I made did not look too good.

Had a friend look in just after I replaced the grub screw plug with the cam gear/idler gear visible..

He asked if was pressurised oil in the idler gear cavity .

I said , I think so.... is it?

The gear cavity is fed by the oil that leaks around the oil pump body. The oil there can go up and out the top of that cavity, so there is no pressure there. The 1/4" pipe plug is at the rear end of the oil gallery- the oil pressure there is at whatever the pump puts out.
