Bratton's Reproduction Beautiful!
I am rebuilding a Stewart Warner Horn (which I understand was very common on new model A's but is getting harder to find today). New brushes, a little soldering, and a little insulating lacquer on the coils has it running great again. But the horn projector is more than a little rusty. It is beat up. With lots of dents and it was hit hard enough that it is no longer even round! So one of the few advantages of being an old fart is that I can afford to throw some money at the problem. I took a chance and ordered a reproduction Stewart Warner horn projector from Bratton's.
It came yesterday, and it it a work of art! It is beautifully formed with an excellent Stewart Warner script and "made in the USA" on the mating flange. So if you have a good working horn with a very rough projector don't be afraid to order a new one from Bratton's. |

Re: Bratton's Reproduction Beautiful!
I think A&L may make that as they do the SW horns, from scratch.

Re: Bratton's Reproduction Beautiful!
Call Steve at Bert's as I know he rebuilds them all the time as he rebuilt mine a few years ago and I know he's still re-building them so he must have the part to sell also as he might have the original parts to do that also.

Re: Bratton's Reproduction Beautiful!
I thought on my original Stewart Warner horns, the "projector" sections were locked in place somehow. Maybe it is rust or the paint that keeps the three sections of the "projector" from turning. Do the parts turn after painting, if they still do, maybe a dab of epoxy inside to keep them from turning?

Re: Bratton's Reproduction Beautiful!
JB weld would have worked wonderfully too - havent found much that stuff cant do (as long as you properly prep and degrease surfaces)
locktite 290- the green stuff that will lock anything to anything and requires extreme heat (like darn near cherry) to break the bond - mainly used to hold bearing races in that arent as snug as they used to be.

Re: Bratton's Reproduction Beautiful!
Isn't so the ring which turns around the trumpet will be secured when the gasket and screws are tightend to the other part on the horn?

Re: Bratton's Reproduction Beautiful!
The trumpet crimp doesn't touch the gaskets, so they can't hold it tight. I'd bet even brushing paint into the crimp would hold it from turning.
