Default 4 Model A Engines for Sale

City: Bellingham
State: WA
Price: Varies

So I have too many engines in too small of a garage. I got a project with an engine, so I don't need these four as well...I frankly got too far in on these instead of working on my roadster. Too many projects...the downfall of every motor hobbyist

Up first is Engine Number 1:SOLD!
It is serial numbered in the *A616078* which puts it in the November 1928 line, so a fairly early engine. The two problems with it are there is a repaired crack in the block on one of the cylinders (pictured) and the water jacket is cracked but not needing any repairs. I was removing the studs from the block and one broke off, thus ending my amateur engine repair dreams...still a very nice engine and comes with all the extra parts to make it whole. Even has a transmission! $OLD

Engine Number 2: Gone

ENGINE NUMBER 3:
This one I got from Eastern Washington and was used as a log puller. It came mounted on a "custom" chassis and frame. Its still in the frame, but the chassis is next to my garage. Basically a front axle with a jerry rigged getup. It comes with a transmission as well but no brake and clutch pedal setup. My buddy and I put this one on a battery and turned it over. Has good compression, and spun freely. It is serial numbered *AA846760* which puts it at a January 1929 date of manufacture.

SERIAL NUMBER:

ENGINE NUMBER 4:
Engine with no transmission, starter, generator etc. Just a plain short block. This engine for whatever reason HAS NO serial number. Not sure why, but it is what it is. The guy I bought it from pulled it from his Coupe as well and replaced it with a small block Ford (puke!). Anyway, he said it ran but definitely needed some work. $175 ON HOLD PENDING PAYMENT

the second engine with strange serial no. looks like it may be a diamond block. On the side of the engine just before the timing gear cover you will find a diamond, some say lozenge shape if there probably 31or newer

You're right, I did find a diamond shaped part of the casting. What does that mean for this engine? I thought the serial number meant it was cast post 1931 or something.

Not as good, but it shows the casting.

the diamond usually designates it as late 31 into the 40,s used for farm and industrial, combines, pumps, powerplants, etc. By the serial # my guess is 1931.

That's kind of different. This one was used in a Model A Coupe.

According to this site, it is 1935 or later.

probably correct 35 or later. many of the diamond blocks had a different numbering system.

Pretty sure I sent both of you guys a PM. Feel free to email me at [email protected]. Since finding out the diamond block is a bit rarer, I wanted to find out more info on it. It was the only engine I was going to keep as it was possibly going to be used as a replacement.

Regarding the serial number on engine #2, I have a '31 deluxe Delivery with serial number 4858XXX. The Model A Daily Engine production lists I've seen online seem to stop at #4855171, and that 'last' one was supposedly made on April 28, 1932. There seems to be more Model A engines made than the available lists indicate. Yes, yours is a "mystery" motor indeed.
