Default Replacement Ignition Key

Is there a way to get a replacement ignition key for a 1940 Ford column ignition switch by providing the cylinder number? I have removed the cylinder but I don't have a key. I can find replacement blanks but no cut keys. The number on the cylinder is "FK 402". Thanks

Any good locksmith should be able to cut a new key from that code

Just be aware if you have not used the lock cylinder in the past, a new key may not work due to unseen problems with the cylinder. a new key is worth a try. Also spray a cleaner in the cylinder and then a light lubricant (not WD-40).

Keys can be cut to a cylinder number, but there is no guarantee it will work in that cylinder now because the pins in the cylinder wear over time. However, it's still worth a try, and if it will not open the cylinder, you can have the cylinder pins changed to fit the key.

EDIT: I started this post before Terry posted, and got sidetracked with something else, them came back and posted, so I am sorta repeating some of the same things he said.

PS....Originally, the ignition lock cylinder and passenger door lock cylinder are usually keyed the same. On my 35 avatar, I could not get the ignition key to work in the door, so I removed the door lock cylinder and had a locksmith make a new key to the numbers on that cylinder and it did not work. So we sprayed some sort of cleaner into the key opening and gently worked the key in and out, and side to side in the cylinder, and the lock began working intermittently at first. The more I worked with it, the better it got.

If you added your general location someone might recommend a good locksmith around the corner.
