Y-Block
I am going to try and post a couple of pictures of the new engine being built for my "30 coupe. Bored and stroked 292, now 313. Harland and Sharps roller rockers, and a mild Howard cam that is compatible with my automatic ( C-4 ). Heads, are not the best choice, but were what I had available at the time, but they have been ported, polished, and larger intake and exh. valves installed. It sure helps to have a Brother who is a very good machinist . sorry the pictures are not very clear. I also would like to thank Sal for the excelent rebuild of the teapot 4bbl carbs.

Re: Y-Block
That's really pretty, and should be a great combo. Like the valve covers.
I'm sending a PM. |

Re: Y-Block
Looks great Jim ! I really like the air cleaners and valve covers. Those heads are probably better than the ECZ-G's etc. with all the work Dennis did on them.

Re: Y-Block
Exhaust ports look a little too big, in fact. (Just my opinion)

Re: Y-Block
we are a a little away from finishing the eng ( it is actually almost done, except for building linkage etc. ), and it will not get put in the car until late summer at the earliest, due to other obligations etc. as for the port being large, and running hot,I don't know, but if the eng runs anything like the one that is in the car now, I actually have a hard time keeping it up to temp. It like's to run at 140-150. don't know if it is that the rad. is real good or the fact that the eng, is "out in the breeze" being in a car with no fenders or hood. ambient temp here in Alaska where I live rarely gets above 80*F. hey , you can't get more good air in , if you can't get the bad air out lol.

Re: Y-Block
I was conservative on the porting, wasn't really happy with it, But I feel it is safe. Now that we have time, I will probably run it on the dyno, if I can find some headers to run with. I've never ran a y-block so will have to make all the adapters to get it up on there. We will see how it goes. I plan to have it finished in a few days.

Re: Y-Block
It has larger intake and exh. valves, but I don't remember off hand what size they are as we started with a larger than stock valve, and cut the valve down. my brother assembled and did all the machine work, he goes by Flatrod here on the barn maybe he will post the size. I live about 50 miles from him, I am leaving for Texas on Monday, I may not talk to him before then

We used C1TE heads with cut down intakes. They are cut to 1.84, exh are 1.510. Didn't want to go bigger on the intakes cause it was cutting into the spark plug area. |
