Hard or unable to shift into 2nd was resolved on my car by rebuilding shift tower. Not a hard job. Problem was 2nd/3rd shifter fork square slot was worn noticeably. That plus shifter ball wear would not allow proper shift.

Yes, I did grease the throw-out bearing.
The arm is on the outside. The arm is where you adjust the free play to 1"
