Re: Setting a 34 speedometer to 00000
If you want to fiddle around a bit, I disassembled my '41 speedo and reset it to zero. took it all apart and reset the dials and reassembled. It's a bit fiddlely but can be done

Re: Setting a 34 speedometer to 00000
Speaking of Zeros, Cool that this unit was in the pile of 33-34 stuff I bought last month. Not sure what a Survey Speedo is…

Re: Setting a 34 speedometer to 00000
Middle 1960's I knew a guy who repaired radios and speedometers, he always left the odometers showing 37,000 miles. He worked for many car dealers.

Re: Setting a 34 speedometer to 00000
I have a '33. Why isn't there a handy 'stem' to reset the trip odometer? The reason FOR a trip odometer is obvious, but where is the reset 'stem, knob, to reset for your next trip.

Re: Setting a 34 speedometer to 00000
Here is a picture of the back of a 33 speedometer. The reset stem is in the lower left. Push the stem in and turn to adjust. Pull out for normal recording of miles.
On my 32, I drilled out a rubber bumper and pushed that on the stem. Much easier on my fingers and quicker to reset. |

Re: Setting a 34 speedometer to 00000
Thank you much, Glenn. No excuses, but I've had 2 strokes= paralyzed left side, right and lower peripheral vision gone, and it is a chore just to get in the little 3W. Once behind the wheel, I'm comfy & not desirous of getting on the floor curled up, or flat back. Soooo, I just felt around behind the speedo, and missed the stem because the amp gauge wire is twirled around it.
So I did the task upon reading your generous answer. My machined gauges panel has two little 'lights'; one upper right, one upper left. (no juice when battery cables are connected, although transport driver said that the car was driven on the transport. So Aug 27 I'm having two very knowledgeable fellows go through the car in their shop here. All the best to you & all these good people on Ford Barn! *** Those 2 little lights (half the size of a pencil erasure could have been directional indicators. I see evidence of a possible directional set-up on the steering column; also an under-each tail-light, a mounted red light. But why yank the directional set-up after the install. (no directional lights anywhere on the front. 'highbeams' Last edited by highbeams; 07-28-2021 at 05:36 AM. |
