It will make your carb look like an authentic Christmas tree ornament!
Appearance is very questionable, IMHO, but quality is phenomenal...I bought a 97 so painted to clean and fix, and discovered that no liquid I owned would touch the stuff even over a month of soaking. I finally bought a new bucket of carb cleaner, which was about $40, and THAT need a week to kill the @#$@##$. All the floating bits of tinsel had to be cleaned off of anything I put in that carb cleaner after that, too.
The various types of stuff I tried before the new carb cleaner involved gasoline and a couple of different alcohol type paint thinners, in fact anything I could find that did not eat zinc, so I would be astounded if alcoholic gasoline had any effect.

The Eastwood carb paint is not gasohol proof.....it is gasohol resistant. If
one happens to reside in an over-regulated asylum like New York State chromate
plating is verboten without proof of proper disposal and a permit. If I built 1000
plus carbs each year the cost of the regs might be affordable.
Here's how I use the stuff, not that anyone is asking.....get the carbs as
clean as possible, media blast, blow out all passages then rinse in lacquer thinner,
and dry thoroughly . In a well ventilated area warm the part up 'warm to the touch'
then just DUST the part. I'm not a fan of using this stuff as a paint, I think as a paint
it looks phony....however as a sort of translucent stain ,shall we say, it gives a
rather nice appearance. The warm up part of my proceedure enhances durability and
hardens the finish.
This is only how I do it...I certainly respect everyone else's thoughts and proceedures.

Holy shit! Invisible carbs! Maybe if I paint my plates like that I won't be tolled and if I paint the whole car I won't get caught in radar!

I checked Eastwoods catalog and can't find a black paint recommended for the base of a 97. What paint are others using?

I don't use paint now, I have my own blackening process. But when I did use paint, I used Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy.

I used, with great results, black epoxy paint.....Rust-oleum brand..... Also, I coated my carbs with Alodine....

A lot of the Model A people with their iron Zeniths swear by hot fuel proof paint from the hobbyshop...it is made to survive the nitromethane loaded fuel used by model airplane engines. I've never tried it, but it sounds like a good idea for bases.
