Which filament is low beam?

Well after squinting at lot of bulbs, there's really no way to tell by looking. But I think I have the solution:

Download one of the free photometer apps to your smartphone. Their accuracy is crap, but good enough for course comparisons.

As for me, i happened on a box of ten vintage Eveready Mazda 1116s for cheap. They are conveniently marked "TOP" on the base, so correct orientation is not a problem.

Well couldn't you just put the light on and check the ammeter? The hi beam would register more drain on the ammeter, the low beam would register less.

Not sure, but it sounds like a working solution to me. Am I missing something here (besides brain cells)....

If you use 32/32 cp bulbs the amps would be the same, it might work
for 32/50 cp bulbs but you have to remember it is the position of the filament
that determines high and low beam.

Just to add something that I have worked on in the last day: I have one of EACH of those bulbs on my car! But now I learned that the bulb with the two arc filiments is a 32/32 and the one with the arc filiment and the long straight filiment is a 50/32. I will tell you that the straight one is so bright you cannot look into it. I suspect it is the 50.

Put on a welding helmet and look at the lit filament. Top filament is low beam.
