Default Spark plugs - what do you use?

What spark plugs do you guys use in your driver?

Do you all use the champion 3x brand?

Does anyone use AC, Wards, Red Head, or ???

What gives you the best performance?

Thanks, Neil

W16Y

I can't see how the 3x plugs sold today (wrong for judging anyway) at 5 times the price of the W16Y are worth it.

I use Champions W16Y's because I got them for $4each. They are OK. Here is a club that posted a great PDF all about current and past plugs!

http://www.rockymountainmodelaclub.o...k_Plug_101.pdf

And another article....

Interesting, page 2 of the top pdf contradicts the info in the second link!?
First link,
The Model A Champion Spark Plug
- The 3com was the forerunner of the Model A plug
- The plug was the #3 Ford called it the 3X
- The Replacement for the 3X was the C16C
- The Replacement for the C16C was the W16Y 1959

Second link,
Recommended spark plugs for the Model A:
Reproduction. Champion 3X - $27
Champion W18 (Equal to Champion 3X - $13
Autolite 3076 (Hotter than W16Y) - $2.50
Motorcraft TT10 (Same as 3076) - $4

NOT Recommended for the Model A:
Champion C-4 (Ref. Ford S/B Aug. 1932)
Champion W16Y (Equivalent to C-4) (Too cold) - $9

I use repro 3X plugs because they are cheap amortized over 40 years,in the early years I had tried to "save" them by using other plugs but it ran better with them so they stayed in, have 2 more sets that I got from trash and burned clean in my car.

I don't feel the need to tinker at changing parts just because they have been in for a year, I wait till they are used up, still running with the points that came with the car, 25 years on the A&L condenser.

My carb jetting is such that I can get slightly too lean with the GAV closed, can burn plugs white.

F.Y.I. I found repro 3X's for under $20.00. Order at the store and they are in the next day.

I found Champion 3X spark plugs for $18.29 each with FREE shipping-
http://www.amazon.com/Champion-Plug-...+3x+spark+plug

I used to use the Motorcraft plugs from the Model A supply places, then was 'advised' to buy a set of the Champion 3X plugs by my advisor. They run exactly the same, no difference. But now, the engine looks prettier.

Oh, there is one difference: The 3X plugs come with thick copper gaskets that don't seal to the head exactly perfect, so there is a little bit of black oil around 3 of the 4 plugs after a long drive.

Just looked at Amazon again and see that they have a 0.50 rebate (each) going on also. That takes the price down to $17.79 each and you still get free shipping.

I have 3x plugs in mine and it runs great. Why are the new plugs not correct for judging? I have an original set of 3x and I can't see any difference between the old and new what am i missing?

I run original and reproduction 3X in all my cars and I see no difference. I also don't consider them to be overly expensive when you divide the total by say 10 years. They also get a lot of comments at shows !
