Story is I bought a NEW horn rod for the car as I had rebuilt the steering box. While out, figured it would be nice to have a nice chromed Horn/Light control. The NEW rod will not go into the spider which controls the lights! I have filed the end of the rod and also the spider. This has finally gotten the spider just on the rod but very tight and quite a lot more to go.

At his point, I have contacted Synders, but as of yet have not had a return call. I'm sure they will not let me return it due to the filing, so I have no other choice but to adjust it to make them fit. I really don't know if I continue to file the end of the rod will it still me usable as the small notch that holds the "C" clip is getting smaller.

Anyone have an idea for me to fix my Brand NEW??? $85 Horn rod?

File the spider, not the rod
Only file the rod to clean it up and remove any burrs
Use a small flat file on the spider until it slips over the rod easily
With light switch at 6/12 o'clock, the spider installs at 6/12 o'clock on the rod, ensure the sliding switch is positioned to except the spider tangs
Always buy two spider...you'll thank me when you break a tang

As the nice man says do not file the rod . The problem is the two prong spider which i guess is also repro some are poor quality . Try to find an original they are solid construction and a give a much better fit no woggle !!!

Well, Snyders called today and I had a chat with them.
The gentleman I talked to said I can return it to them for a full refund!
Will be putting the old horn rod back into the car and try and drive this for the first time in over a year!

In my opinion Snyder's steps up again!

Geesh Joe, you can’t catch a break ! I have had good luck with Snyder’s as well, no returns yet but good quality parts so far. Look forward to seeing you hit the road again soon so we can get out for a drive !

I had the same problem as Cape Codder. I decided to measure the square formed section of the round rod and compare to the ID of my OEM spider. I found that the corners of the formed, square section were high and there was a raised burr on the lead in section between the insulator the hand formed tangs that retain the clip. I too was about to return my new rod but decided to carefully apply my filing skills to avoid the shipping delays.
After carefully filing the flat sections flat across the faces, rounding sharp corners of the square and filing down the burr, my old spider easily slipped onto the new rod.
