Asking price for a 28 AR
I’m helping a friend sell a 1928 AR Roadster and would like to determine a fair asking price.
The car runs, shifts and stops. The metal, paint and interior are good. The top with side curtains is excellent. The car has been in the same family for over 30 years. If any of you traveled to Dearborn for the 100 anniversary of the Ford Motor Company, you saw this car on the lawn (pic attached). The white spots you see in some of the shots is a bit of mildew. So again, what is your opinion of a fair asking price? Thanks Leo |

Re: Asking price for a 28 AR
A bit more info would be nice. Original shocks, fenders, engine, Abel starter, etc., etc., and a whole host of other early features figure into an asking price. I see that it still has the short choke rod and left hand emergency brake handle used on early cars. To get someone to pay more than 15k will require a pretty original car all around.

The car looks very nice, but appears to need some chrome redone, paintwork as you mention etc. Dont know that the AR aspect has much play into the overall sale-maybe a 10% differential? a little more info would be helpful in determining final value. |

Re: Asking price for a 28 AR
A friend of mine recently bought a '29, nice near but not as nice as the one pictured. He paid $18,500 for it and I thought that was reasonable. I would start at $25,000 and accept no less than 20 for it. You can always come down, never up!

You must ask... is this well done restoration.. all reconditioned brakes with Cast Iron Drums, Engine fresh? The list is endless.
So range $10-$25 Best guess unless you tear into brakes, compression test etc etc etc |

Re: Asking price for a 28 AR
I say around 15,000 it needs some work.
By the way my car was part of the 100 anniversary also. |

Re: Asking price for a 28 AR
Could easily need 10-15,000.00 in work. Tires, brakes, shocks, front end, engine, clutch, wiring, paint, radiator, the list “could” go on and on.
If I were looking for one, something in the $12-15,000.00 range would get my attention. As said many times, “It’s only worth what someone is willing to pay”. Enjoy. |

Re: Asking price for a 28 AR
May I ask what color this is? My original '28 AR roadster is painted this same color. It is darkened over the years, but it is the same color combo.
Thanks, |

Looks more like Gunmetal Blue, to me. That was a 1926-1928 color on Model T's and Model A's. It had greyish-green-blue hues to it, depending upon the sunlight.

Re: Asking price for a 28 AR
By the placement of the starter push rod says the car was built after March 1928..

"Grey" is the Queen's English spelling.

Re: Asking price for a 28 AR
A few years ago I wondered if gray and grey are both acceptable ways of spelling it, and they are.

I also noticed that it has a "conventional" generator vs. Powerhouse. And, the starter switch is not rectangular. Leo |

Re: Asking price for a 28 AR
Here are shots of the engine number and front and rear shocks. Can any info be gleaned from these?
