Hi folks,
Bit confused over Model A blues. Which Blue is the main body color here? Duchess? |

Re: Which blue is this?
I checked the official Model A Ford Paint and Finish Guide by MAFCA. It looks like Hessian Blue per the book. What ever it really is it is a great looking Special Coupe.

I hadn't considered Hessian. Anybody else with any input? All knowledge gratefully received! |

Re: Which blue is this?
I agree with Gary about the colors - Niagara blue light and Duchess blue belt moulding. The nicely restored special coupe is probably a 28 so the owner probably used an original color scheme, Hessian Blue is not a 28 or 29 color which is when special coupes were manufactured. I could be wrong and the owner might have just picked a color he liked, but I doubt it, due to the good job of restoration on the car.

Y'know Rusty, I hadn't even considered that it may not be an original color! Ha!

Re: Which blue is this?
Interesting. I have a 30Tudor that is black and I found spots of blue that look like the pictue. As I understand it the 30 could have only been Andalusie Blue that is much darker. It is a driver and 83 years old I realy have no idea what colors it may have been or how many times it has been painted.

Well, this is strange. The picture showed just fine this morning when I first looked at it, but now I can only see a red X. Even if I right click on "show picture", it just comes back with the red X.

Tom, I was out of town and tethered my mobile phone to get internet on my tablet and when I saw this post there was only text, no hint a photo was lurking with the post. Now I'm home, turned on the desktop and found the beautiful photo.

Re: Which blue is this?
I am pretty sure that you will find Niagara Blue will have a much greener tint than what is showing in the picture....at least on my computer. I think there is a slight color shift in the photo from what is actually on the car which probably is Niagara Blue.
One of my first Model A rebuilds was a 1928 roadster. I painted it Niagara Blue Light. I picked the paint color by name from a list of 1928 colors without seeing a color chip and was really disappointed when I saw the actual color, more green than blue. |

Re: Which blue is this?
Pretty sure Hessian blue was only used on wheels and pin stripes on Lombard blue cars. I also vote Niagra blue.

Re: Which blue is this?
I second what wrndln said regarding color and usage.
Hessian Blue was not used until '30-'31. I'm feeling a little embarrased, that I cannot seea difference between the lower body color and the belt moulding. I do think I see a sight difference with the upper-body... ? Pretty car... I like Special Coupes... |

Re: Which blue is this?
Keep in mind that different computers/monitors will put a completely different cast, ESPECIALLY with blues/greens.
