OK.... Newby dumb question

'31 CCPU. If only the passage side door handle had a key lock how did the drivers side door get locked?

it should have a lock swtich in the upper back corner. i have 1 key lock and 3 switch locks on my fordor

Welcome to the Barn and the wonderful world of model As. Drivers door had to be locked from the inside. Then you scooted across the passenger seat to exit, locking the door with the key. This was done for safety. I guess some weren't smart enough to hop out without looking for on coming traffic. I understand that some states still have traffic laws prohibiting exiting a car from the drivers side. If no one posts a picture, check out some of the model A dealers , looking for an interior shot of the drivers door. Several of the Model A vendors sell a repro door lock. Since I'm not building a fine points show car, I will replace my plain door handle with one that locks.

When you have the door panel off, be sure to lube all the moving parts and replace any broken springs. My doors work great since I replaced the bad springs in the latch and greased everything. I still need to replace the spring in the center of the rod from the handle to the latch assembly.

I tell you I've had the panel off a couple of time must have completely missed the spot where the lock goes. I cleaned and lubed (without removing) most all of the door components and did not see any lock.

When I got my truck the lock knob and shaft were bent over and covered with an ancient and disgusting white vinyl door panel. I straightened the shaft and cleaned the knob...works great

How to lock your model A doors: When the wife and I go for a ride where our model A doors get locked, I lock my drivers door from the inside as am I getting out. Then I walk around to the passenger door, and after the wife gets out, I lock her door handle with my door key. After returning to the model A, I first unlock her door handle with my key so she can get in and unlock my driver's door handle from the inside. Not a problem at all, and it is nice having a secure vehicle.

You could have a RHD left door .In RHD vehicles the key locking door is the left door the left door is not set up to take the interior sliding lock no "D" nuts . The right door has the sliding lock .

And remember that the gear shift lever moves upwards toward the dash to allow the driver to slide across the seat to the passenger side and exit .
